Alpine Managing Director Steve Nielsen has set out the team’s ambition to “try and win it” at the Italian Grand Prix after Pierre Gasly claimed an impressive pole position for the Enstone-based squad. Having displayed strong pace throughout Qualifying - which saw him lead the timesheets in Q1 - Gasly managed to go fastest of all during the final segment to score his maiden pole in Formula 1, six years on from his debut victory at the same circuit....

Oscar Piastri has been handed a three-place grid penalty for the Italian Grand Prix after the stewards found him guilty of impeding Liam Lawson in Qualifying. Red Bull substitute Lawson closed in on Piastri’s McLaren (which had just left the pits) through Monza’s first chicane during the closing stages of Q2 - the New Zealander subsequently expressing his frustration over the radio and missing the Q3 cut. After hearing from both drivers, Red Bull and McLaren team representatives, and reviewing the range of data available to them, the stewarding panel settled on a grid drop for the Australian....

Joshua Duerksen claimed his third Sprint Race victory of the 2026 FIA Formula 2 season, fighting through the pack in impressive fashion to take the win. The Invicta Racing driver started seventh on the grid, but was up to fourth place almost immediately by the time the pack reached Turn 4 on the opening lap. From there, the Paraguayan driver picked off his rivals to climb the podium rankings, before a mid-race Safety Car wiped out reverse grid polesitter John Bennett’s lead....

Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton admit that Ferrari failed to execute a good enough strategy during Qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix, with the pair only achieving P4 and P5 respectively. With the slipstream at Monza proving pivotal, teams and drivers tried to work in unison to give themselves a shot at pole position ahead of Sunday’s 53-lap race. But the Scuderia failed to deliver in front of their home fans, as both Leclerc and Hamilton found themselves two tenths adrift of surprise polesitter, Pierre Gasly....

Gabriel Bortoleto believes Audi “can be fighting for points” in the Italian Grand Prix, having just missed out on reaching the top 10 in Qualifying by the smallest of margins. The Brazilian failed to advance through to the final part of Qualifying on Saturday by just 0.001s, as Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari took the final spot in Q3. Despite missing out, Bortoleto believes he extracted the maximum from his Audi during a session where utilising a slipstream from the car in front proved crucial....

George Russell shared his predictions for the Italian Grand Prix after settling for second place in Qualifying, as Alpine driver Pierre Gasly executed a remarkable lap to clinch pole position at the last moment. With the second Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli set to start at the back of the grid, and Ferrari struggling to replicate their timesheet-topping pace from earlier in the weekend, it looked as though Russell had a relatively clear path to pole position....

Mercedes-powered cars made it 13 poles from 13 races in 2026 on Saturday afternoon, but no-one predicted Pierre Gasly would be the driver up top. While the Frenchman’s pace isn’t in doubt, Alpine haven’t really threatened the sharp-end of the grid in quite a while. Fastest in Q1, fourth in Q2, and quickest by six-hundredths when it mattered most. Presented with a rare opportunity, Gasly didn’t blink. But what happens on race day?...

9= Mika Hakkinen (94 races) Pierre Gasly claimed his maiden pole position for Alpine at Monza, pulling off one of the shocks of the season, and in the process ending a near nine-year wait to top a Qualifying session. We take a look back at the other drivers who had to wait a long time before finally capturing a first pole position. Mika Hakkinen spent his first two seasons in Formula 1 with the ailing Lotus squad but, having joined McLaren as reserve driver for 1993, got his chance in the closing rounds after Michael Andretti was deemed surplus to requirements....

Alpine Gasly grabbed his maiden pole position in sensational fashion, beating the field on merit for Alpine. In truth, Alpine looked quick all day, so it was no surprise when both drivers made Q3 with ease. They had been troubling the top spots in Q1 and Q2, but many expected them to fall back a bit in Q3. That was not the case, Gasly nailing his second lap when many could not improve to beat Russell by 0....

Given that the team won the previous two races at the Hungaroring and Zandvoort, McLaren can hardly be satisfied with the outcome of a Monza Q3 session that left Oscar Piastri sixth on the grid and Lando Norris eighth. The result was not representative of the car’s potential - Piastri initially qualified third before receiving a three-place grid penalty for impeding Liam Lawson in Q2 - and, despite the shortcomings of the MCL40 package, there remains potential to move forward in Sunday’s race....

Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda both impressed when they made substitute appearances at Zandvoort, particularly given the last-minute nature of the decision for Isack Hadjar to step aside. It was a hugely important weekend for Tsunoda in particular, putting him back on the paddock’s radar. Lawson, meanwhile, is by no means guaranteed a race seat for 2027, with Nikola Tsolov waiting in the wings, and showing what he could do in a Red Bull strengthened his hand....

Pierre Gasly will lead the field away in Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix, with the Alpine driver claiming a shock pole position over Mercedes rival George Russell at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. Oscar Piastri had been set to start third for McLaren, but he drops to sixth - behind the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, and the Red Bull of Max Verstappen - due to a penalty for impeding Liam Lawson in Q2....

Ollie Bearman believes the upgrades Haas have brought to the Italian Grand Prix are proving to be a “night and day difference” compared with the team’s performances earlier in the season. Haas have brought their biggest upgrade of the season to Monza, including a new chassis and bodywork as the American team attempts to move closer to the midfield battle having slipped down the pecking order. Bearman has failed to score since the Canadian Grand Prix back in May, while team mate Esteban Ocon last reached the points at the start of June in Monaco....

Racing Bulls Team Principal Alan Permane has set out the target of getting both cars into Q3 during Saturday’s Qualifying at the Italian Grand Prix, following on from a solid start for the squad in Friday’s practice sessions. On a weekend in which Yuki Tsunoda is again standing in for Liam Lawson as the New Zealander deputises at Red Bull, Arvid Lindblad hinted at Racing Bulls' potential by going seventh fastest in both practice hours - with only the Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren cars quicker in Free Practice 2....

George Russell kicked off his Italian Grand Prix weekend on the front foot as the Mercedes driver set the pace in second practice, but Ferrari were lurking and could well spring a surprise this weekend… Well, Mercedes Deputy Team Principal Bradley Lord reckons Ferrari are favourites based on what he saw on Friday, where the Scuderia were quickest in first practice and only a fraction off Russell’s leading time in FP2....
